This Blackthorn Walking Stick is made from Irish Blackthorn by an Irish Craftsman in what is known as 'Ireland's Hidden Heartlands.'

This Irish Blackthorn walking stick has some nice subtle thorn stubbs / knobbles and a good heavy handle for a secure grip.  Blackthorn is a very hard and durable wood which is why they make ideal walking sticks for hiking etc.

We gather all our Blackthorn Walking sticks ourselves from our own fields and surrounding areas in a sustainable manner.  We regularly plant new blackthorn bushes even though on taking samples we do not destroy the original bush.

The handle is very comfortable to be held in either forward or reverse facing and is 5 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter.

The shaft tapers from approximately 1.1/8" to 1"  

Weighing in at 510g or just over 1.1lb.  

The handle is part of the same piece of blackthorn and not attached separately.  The handle has been treated with Danish Oil for durability and protection.

This Irish Blackthorn Walking stick is 38" in length tip to tip and can be cut to length required on request.

This Irish Blackthorn walking stick has many knobbles and is a substantial stick.  Blackthorn is a very hard and durable wood which is why they make ideal walking sticks for hiking.

Due to the good weight and size of this Blackthorn stick it is certainly deserving of the name Irish Sillelagh.  Shillelagh were originally Irish Fighting Sticks which were eventually outlawed by the Penal Laws imposed by England.  The sticks therefore became longer and were classed as Irish Blackthorn Walking Sticks, but with their hardness and weight were still used for self protection or defence and were a Shillelagh with a slighly different appearance.

O'Connors Irish Crafts are pleased to announce our new Range of Irish Blackthorn Walking Sticks / Shillelagh.    These Blackthorn Walking Sticks are personally sourced by ourselves mainly from Irish Blackthorn.  Some of our sticks will be finished in black and others will be left with the bark on to showcase the natural red and brown colouring of Blackthorn bark.  All O'Connors Blackthorn walking aticks are seasoned, treated for protection and enhancement and produced by an Irish Craftsman.
